Adds new presses for injection molding, expands production and warehouse space, and completes significant upgrades to facility for plastics molding near Rochester, NY

11.4.2014 | CY Plastics, Inc. has completed a year-long expansion and upgrade project, investing more than $500,000 in new equipment, space and infrastructure at its plastics molding facility near Rochester, NY. CY Plastics manufactures custom plastic parts for industrial, medical, commercial and specialty consumer products at its 25,000 square foot factory in Honeoye, Ontario County.

The expansion and investment supports demand for additional capacity from existing and new customers.

Highlights include:

New Arburg 350-ton injection molding press at CY Plastics

• Purchase of a 350-ton Arburg 720 S injection molding press, augmenting the company’s existing 425-ton press for higher-volume production. The company also added a smaller Arburg press for low volume injection molding, for a total of six new Arburg machines installed over the past two years.
• Installation of two Gorbel overhead crane systems for streamlined materials handling and more efficient use of space.
• Reconfiguration of the factory floor, re-positioning numerous injection molding and blow molding machines for improved workflow.
• Creation of a new tool room and additional mold storage areas.
• Design and installation of a new water distribution system optimized for the new floor layout.
• Installation of a new compressor and airlines through the facility.
• Upgrades to the electrical system to double the electrical capacity in the building.
• Installation of new high-efficiency lighting.
• Installation of new pallet racking in the adjacent 12,500 square foot warehouse, to support managed inventory programs and free up additional space for manufacturing in the main facility.

The company’s next phase of investment is already underway, with renovations of the front offices and building exterior.

“CY Plastics has been manufacturing injection-molded and blow-molded plastic parts in this facility since 1995, adding machines as we grew,” said CY Plastics president Andy Molodetz. “With this latest investment we have added capacity and also improved efficiency, furthering our ability to respond to our customers’ needs.”

CY Plastics is a privately-held company with 53 employees and plans to add five more over the next two years.
